Guest Speaker: Michael Spohn N1SPW to explain Parks On The Air
At our last online meeting, there was an expressed interest in Parks On The Air (POTA). Michael Spohn has some experience with POTA and will join us to explain how POTA works.
POTA began as a sponsored activity of the ARRL in 2016. It’s goal was to get Ham operators out of the shack and into the field, particularly at Federal and State parks and National Forests. When the program ended at the end of 2016, it had become so popular, a group of Hams created a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to keep it going.
In Mike’s presentation, he will discuss the history of POTA, its explosive growth, and how you can get started in this fun activity. He will also explore the gear he uses, how he deploys it in a park, and many of the things he has learned – the ‘hard’ way. If you are looking for an incredibly fun and challenging Ham experience – join us at the March meeting in person at the Murray Center or on the Internet.
