January 25: SOARA General Meeting

tasma-xheaderAll are welcome to attend the first general SOARA meeting of 2016 on Monday, January 25 at 7pm at the Norman P Murray center in Mission Viejo. This month’s speaker is Dave Elder KA6TBF, Chairman of TASMA. TASMA is a volunteer organization which manages the 2 meter Amateur Radio spectrum in Southern California. Testing will be at 6pm. November 16: SOARA Fall Auction

AuctionTime to clean out the HAM shack and pick up some new projects for the holidays.  All are welcome to attend the next SOARA Fall Auction on Monday, November 16 at the Norman P Murray Center in Mission Viejo at 7pm. For more information on the SOARA live auctions, check here.  A regularly scheduled FCC licensing examination will occur prior to the meeting at 6pm.

October 19: SOARA General Meeting

AREDN-Final-Logo_0All are welcome to the next SOARA General Meeting on Monday, October 19 at 7pm at the Norman P Murray center in Mission Viejo.  This month’s speakers are Joe AE6XE and Don KE6BXT– the topic is about high speed Amateur Radio mesh technology.

“The Orange County Mesh Network, a high speed digital RF network, has grown substantially in the last year.  Joe Ayers, AE6XE, and Don Hill, KE6BXT, will give an over view of the OC Mesh technology, the services it provides, and present the longer term plans as they work to integrate with other Southwest region groups to build an RF backbone, an off-grid ham internet, from the Mexico boarder to the Bay Area.”

October 17: South County Disaster Preparedness Expo

OC Supervisor Lisa Bartlett is sponsoring the 8th Annual South County Disaster Preparedness Expo. On Saturday, October 17th from 09:00 - 12:00 at the Norman P Murray Community Center.  Multiple agencies will be participating.
SOARA has a booth reserved, and we will be demonstrating HF radio, and explaining the role of Ham Radio in disasters.  We will also have information about licensing classes and testing, as well as membership info.
We encourage all to come by, volunteer some time for public contact, or just check out your club booth.  If you'd like to volunteer, send me an email  to <ae6h@soara.org> . Attached is the event flyer with more information.

September 21: SOARA Fair

All are welcome to join SOARA for their next SOARA Fair on Monday, September 21 at 7pm at the Norman P Murray Center in Mission Viejo.

The SOARA Fair is held once a year during a general club meeting where club subject matter experts will have mini-seminars on a range of Amateur Radio and electronic topics.  The mini-seminars are held informally and you can rotate from seminar to seminar.  This event is open to the public and there is no cost to attend.

jvn04The first Sunday of August, SOARA holds a picnic to celebrate the end of Summer and to give an opportunity for the friends and families of the club members to meet in an informal setting.

SOARA provides hamburgers, hot dogs, tea and water. We ask that club members bring a side and/or desert item.
