We will be scheduling operators for the various stations, and ironing out other last minute details to help ensure a great Field Day experience. If you’ll be joining us at Field Day, whether a first timer or seasoned veteran, your attendance at this meeting is highly recommended.  Hope you can make it.

March 20 General Meeting: Earthquakes

Please join us at the Norman P. Murray Center, in Mission Viejo, CA on Monday, 3/20, at 7pm for our General Meeting.

Our guest speaker is Tom Broz, P.E., S.E., F.ASCE, and a member of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute.  He is a Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in multiple states, in the fields of of Civil, and Structural Engineering, as well as a licensed General Contractor.  The topic will be Earthquakes, Causes, Effects, Mitigations, and Preparations.  As an animated visual presentation, the slant will be slightly different from the usual.

Tom holds a BS in Civil Engineering, and a MS in Structural Engineering. In his over 44 year career he has worked for and held leadership positions in a number of notable engineering and construction firms, including Bechtel, DMJM, Wildan, and Stantec, to name a few. He also belongs to a number of professional associations, such as Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Structural Engineers Association of Southern CA, and several more.  He is also a recent OC Fire Watch volunteer.  His presentation will range from the technical to the practical.

February 27: DX Admonitions and Aspirations

Please join us at the Norman P. Murray Center on Monday, 2/27, at 7pm for our General Meeting.  This month’s speaker is Ralph Fedor, K0IR.

In his presentation to the South Orange Amateur Radio Association, Ralph will give us a little insight into what he has gleaned from his past DXpeditions and share some images and experiences from some of the world’s most remote places.

With this as a background, Ralph will take us inside the plans for a DXpedition to Bouvet in early 2018 (Also featured in the January Propagator).  He will discuss the challenges Bouvet presents, the logistics of an operation there, and what we, on the West Coast, are likely to observe as the DXpedition unfolds.

An amateur radio testing session will start prior to the meeting at 6pm.  We look forward to seeing you there!

January 23: SOARA General Meeting

All are welcome to the next SOARA general meeting on Monday, January 23 at 7pm at the Norman P Murray center in Mission Viejo.

This month’s speaker is Paul Gacek W6PNG with a presentation about Summits on the Air (SOTA), the ARRL National Parks on Air (NPOTA), hiking and photography.

An amateur radio testing session will start prior to the meeting at 6pm.
